Wood Wick FAQs
Candle Care
Before each burn, trim the wood wick to about 1/8 inch. A shorter wick helps the candle burn evenly, reduces excess smoke, and supports a clean, steady flame. You can use a wick trimmer, nail clippers, or gently break off the charred wood once the candle has cooled. You can learn more by reading our full wooden wick candle care guide.
Wood wicks burn best when they are kept short. If the wick is too long, the flame may become too high, flicker excessively, or struggle to stay lit because the wax cannot properly fuel the flame.
For the first burn, allow the wax to melt close to the edges of the vessel. This helps create an even melt pattern and reduces tunneling. Depending on the candle size, this usually takes about 2–4 hours.
The gentle crackle is one of the signature features of a wood wick candle. It creates a warm, atmospheric burn experience similar to the subtle sound of a fireplace.
Wood Wick Performance
A wood wick may struggle to stay lit if it is too long, if there is too much charred wood on the wick, or if the candle has not burned long enough to create a proper melt pool. Let the candle cool, trim the wick to about 1/8 inch, remove any loose debris from the wax, and relight.
Yes. With coconut-apricot wax, some wax hang-up can be normal during the earlier burns. As the candle burns lower in the vessel, the remaining wax will gradually melt down. This also helps prevent the jar from overheating.
Yes. Wood wicks create a wider, softer flame and may produce a gentle crackle. They also require slightly different care, especially consistent trimming before each burn.
A low flame can happen when the wick is trimmed too short, the wax pool is overwhelming the wick, or there is excess charred wood blocking the flame. Allow the candle to cool, clear away loose charred pieces, and relight when the wick is exposed.
